Selections from the Ukrainian Orthodox Liturgy
The St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Choir has continuously served the Parish since its formation in 1924. In addition to the fulfilment of its primary objective, that of providing the only form of musical expression traditionally permissible in the Church, the Choir has achieved recognition through participation in various secular concerts and musical festivals.

Conductor: Alexander Yewfimchuk
Mr. Yewfimchuk conducted the St. John’s Cathedral Choir since 1954. With his sensitive interpretations of sacred music and a treasure of varied liturgies, he has given the congregation spiritual exaltation. Mr. Yewfimchuk received his training at the Synodal Conservatory. He conducted church and school choirs in his native Ukraine and in numerous centres in Europe.
He emigrated to Canada in 1947 and first accepted the position of choirmaster of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Saskatoon.
Narrator: Walter Kaasa
Mr. Kaasa held a B.Ed degree from the University of Alberta, received his licentia from the Royal Academy of Music, and was a graduate of the Central School of Speech and Drama. He obtained his certificate in speech and drama from the University of London and is an Associate of the British Drama Board.
