About
The Tsymbaly (Hammered Dulcimer) is a traditional Ukrainian instrument that dates back to the 17th century. It is 120-string instrument that is played with wooden hammers or can be plucked with fingers.
The first chidlren’s group of Tsymbaly players in British Columbia is under the direction of Gladys Andreas. The group consists of Cory (10), Julia (12), Leah (14) and Justin (12) and have participated in numerous functions in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia and the Seattle’s Folklife Festival for four years. As a group, they have won medals at the Pysanka Festival, Vegreville, Alberta. As well Cory and Julia have won medals at Canada’s Ukrainian National Festival in Dauphin, Manitoba.
